Song of the week- Little Reason by Paul Orwell

Hello Chums, Just before we begin our ramblings, we'd like to introduce you to a new section of our blog- 'Song Of The Week'- where we discuss (with our small but fabulous army of blog readers) the song that we have chosen as our favourite this week. Were hoping to keep this pretty regular but our lives are extremely busy with GCSE's and such at present so please don't loose faith, we'll be organised one day! Anyway, lets begin!

~PAUL ORWELL- LITTLE REASON~

We have little reason to believe that Paul Orwell's 'Little Reason' isn't worthy of the first 'Song Of The Week' slot on our blog! The song takes us back some 50 years ago, It captures the original but fresh 60's vibe that we've been missing for so long and It smothers your eardrums with psychedelic beats, riffs, baselines and vocals, worthy of nothing less that platinum disc praise. And how did we discover it you may ask. Twitter- The Font Of All Knowledge, The Land Of The Free, whatever you'd like to call it! You could say it was fate, coincidence, but either way, we discovered Paul Orwell and (sparing the cliche) we instantly became entranced in the melodic atmosphere which his music creates. Its not so often that you stumble across such an exciting and one of a kind artist, so finding Paul Orwell came as such a treat, not only to us, but to many other music lovers out there!

The music takes a classic 60's vibes but manages to add a twist of its own. Maybe its the lyrics, the vocals, the twang of the guitar, theres something about this song which makes it completely individual, completely identifiable, completely Paul Orwell! It might just be that most chart music now sounds the same, this song just stands out from the crowd! Its vibrant, its exciting and its definitely worth a listen (or 10)! Paul Orwell has certainly grasped our attention and I'm sure he'll grasp yours too!

Here's the song you've all been waiting for...

You can find him in many different places-

We hope you enjoyed our further ramblings of our fascination with good true music, thank you for popping bye and we hope to hear of you all in the near future, Sophie and Ruby!

Introducing: The High Learys!

Our next discovered talent is a band of great artistry, The High Learys! The Australian band popped up to us on a scroll through Youtube, and we were blown away. With Matt Williams on guitar, Jamie Turner on vocals/bass, Micheal Hutt on the organ and Adrian Macmillan on drums, the four combine to make a fantastic mix of psych, rhythm and blues and freakbeat! The High Learys formed in 2011 in their hometown of Perth, and were not so long after signed to the German music label 'Soundflat'. In May this year they released their delightful debut album 'Here Come The High Learys', an astounding mix of songs, one of which is our favorite 'you've got what i need'.

The high learys are massively influenced by us beloved Brits and mod culture, always dressed the sharpest possible. Their sound is clearly very much inspired by the likes of The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and The Kinks. We simply adore the 60's vibe their music gives off! After countless hours of listening to their album on repeat, we decided our favorite song of theirs has got to be 'You've Got What I Need', with its upbeat tempo and exploding energy of rhythm ,its an instant mood lifter! We can clearly tell by their work they have a very deep and admirable passion for music and everything they do.

Also, The High Learys are currently doing a European tour, stopping by at Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and most excitedly Britain! If you hope to be giving one of their gigs a visit, they are still taking place this month and carring on through next month too, or if you want to look into getting your hands on some tickets for one, check out their websites for more information here: http://thehighlearys.com/

Overall, we think The High Learys are a hell of a lot more than just 'recommendable', we really do hope to hear a lot more of them in the future, and we're certainly sure we will. We advise you all to give these guys a good listen or you're missing out on a great deal of good music, so here's a few links to our favorite songs of theirs for you to check out :
                                           You've Got What I Need
                                           Peace Of Mind
                                           Let You Down

That's enough of our tales of first-rate music for this week, although we could go on for hours. Thank you all for taking a look at our blog and giving it a read, we hope you all enjoyed our nattering on about our love of good real music. We'd love to hear of you all again soon, and make sure you hop by for our next blog post next week!

Introducing: Ryan Jarvis!

First of all, before we natter away about the wonderful Ryan Jarvis, we'd like to apologize for the lack of posts (none at all) recently. We've been up to our eyeballs in GCSE coursework and art has drained every drop of creativity and time out of us. We really are sorry and from now on will keep the blog posts flowing.

Now for the one and only lovely Ryan Jarvis, a fresh faced young musician from marvelous Manchester. Similar to the likes of Jake Bugg and Bob Dylan, his acoustic tracks have a very homely and hearty feel to them. His debut EP 'outside this town' consists of sweet symphonies such as 'outside this town', and 'shine for me', which was released not so long ago and is now available to buy.
Ryan Jarvis is often playing glorious gigs in and around Manchester, the most recent of which in the ruby lounge which we unfortunately just missed. His classic country chorus's and extreme talents have attracted many frantic fans, even the likes of Miles Kane cant resist Jarvis's charismatic coos. Our favorite piece of his has to definitely be 'shine for me', with its soothing vocals and gentle guitar, he's really got us dying for more. Overall we think Ryan Jarvis is a great talent, who has a lot more heading his way and hopefully has a lot more to bring to the world of real music in the anticipated future, we also hope to be giving a visit to his next gig and will share every detail of its glory in yet another post soon to come!
we highly recommend giving his website (http://ryanjarvismusic.co.uk/) a quick glance, and allowing your ears a pleasured few minutes to give these tunes a listen:

Is it in my 'Head'- The Who

Hello Chums, On Saturday(14/09/11) we had a whale of a time, flicking through records and sampling the new addition to our town, the 'Head' store. An event we've been anticipating for a long time, when Saturday 14th September came, we both woke up with an almighty spring in our step.

On Saturday, 'Head' had its grand opening and we were lucky enough to pop by and check out what they had to offer! Selling an extensive collection of various Vinyl, CD's, DVD's and Games, 'Head' didn't fail to impress us! And we made a day of it! We brought along some companions too, our good friend Lucianne and my (Ruby's) brother will.

We all had our pockets left bare after purchasing various records: Frankie and The Heartstrings-Hunger, The Smiths- Rank, Black Lips!- We Did Not Know The Forest Spirit Made The Flowers Grow, Black Lips- Good Bad Not Evil and The Black Angles- Indigo Meadows. We also grabbed ourselves a great lot of bargains from the good old charity shops too! Nothing beats buying quality Shirts, Skirts, Jumpers, Scarfs and CD's for peanut prices. The charity shop CD racks were bustling and we picked ourselves some almighty finds- Oasis: Whats The Story Morning Glory, Oasis: Don't Believe The Truth, The Libertines: The Libertines and Bob Dylan: Together Through life.

Overall, our thoughts on 'Head' are all pretty positive. We loved the layout of the shop as it was simple but also pretty chilled and cool too! They had a great range of vinyl, from pop to punk to rock to indie to jazz and they didn't fail to impress us with their bargain corner, where you could get decent vinyl for peanuts too! The shop was very spacious but had everything needed to create a nice atmosphere and all the employees seemed friendly and helpful. We would recommend that the shop started selling 7 inch, we also think it would be a great idea for the shop to open a small cafe at the back, where vinyl lovers could hang and chat and converse about their terrific tastes in music. We think it would be a great idea for 'Head' to introduce live performances in the shop, we have nothing like that here and we think it would do really well! We had a great time and would again recommend that you all took a peek at any shop in the 'Head' chain.

Thankyou for popping by and we hope to see you again in the close future, Goodbye, Ruby and Sophie!

Introducing: Frankie And The Heartstrings

Hello Chums,We'd just like to start by telling you that were starting a series of blog posts called 'Introducing:...' in which we will be sharing our love for big, small and inbetweeny British Bands. Enjoy!

Frankie and the Heartstrings are an Indie-Rock band based in Sunderland. Their career kicked off in 2008 and their popularity has continued to grow and blossom into a small but fabulous following of loving fans, who all share a 'hunger' for their talent, blowing their fans away at their intimate and lively gigs, creating fabulous music and altogether being a group of  talented musicians  . With songs such as 'Everybody Looks Better (In The Right Light)' and 'Hunger', they have not failed to replicate the sound of angels and satisfy our 'Hungry' appetite for good music along many others craving the same.

Frankie and The Heartstrings have released 2 albums, first being there debut album 'Hunger' in 2011 and their second, 'The Days Run Away' not so long ago in June 2013. Although their new album is praiseworthy beyond belief, our appetite for 'Hunger' is ever present, being, in our opinions, their very best. The album Hunger, featuring the songs such as Tender, Possibilities and Photograph is a perfect combination of rhythmic melodies and melodic rhythms that would satisfy the unsatisfyable and please the unpleaseable.

Not only have '... The Heartstrings' impressed us with their glorious symphonies, they have also stunned us with their entrepreneurial mind-sets, opening a record shop in Sunderland and also providing us with the record label 'Pop Sex LTD'. They have also made several podcasts which are available on iTunes and are really entertaining to listen to!
Frankie and the Heartstrings are a band that introduce you to the beautiful sounds not dissimilar to the likes  of  Orange Juice, Dexy's Midnight Runners and many more along the lines. And being being a band produced by Edwyn Collins, Ryan Jarman of the Cribs and Suede guitarist Bernard Butler their talent does not surprise us in the least.

 Find them on twitter
Check out their website

Overall, We highly recommend this band to each and every one of you. we guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Thankyou for popping by and we hope to see you again in the close future, Goodbye, Ruby and Sophie!

Til the life I knew comes to my house and says 'Hello'- Oasis.

Hello. If you're reading this blog post its inevitable that you either stumbled across us circumstantially or you have heard about us through a means of communication. Either way we'd just  like to start by thanking you for taking a peek at what we have got to offer.

We are Ruby(on the left) and Sophie(on the right) and as you already may know, we're two 14 year old music enthusiasts from the north. I (Ruby) am a Mod who loves to go to vintage festivals and buy bits and bobs from charity shops. My Fred Perry's, Retro Dresses, Loafers and DM's are my prize possessions and I look after them with the up most of care. I enjoy nothing more than drinking tea and listening to vinyl on my record player. I (Sophie) am into anything floral, Lacey and generally pretty. My desert boots and my Ipod are my definite desert island picks and I could NOT live without them. I absolutely love art, making clothes and other crafty bits and bobs, another thing me and Ruby have in common. Together we have millions of similar interests but most importantly our love for music which we discovered when Morrissey came into a conversation not so long ago!

You may be wondering why we'd ever think of starting a blog sharing our music tastes and reviewing beloved bands and glorious gigs and here is why. We both share a gigantic love for music. But not just any old chart nonsense, were talking about R E A L music here. Indie, Indie Rock, Mod, Northern Soul, R+B (but not the rubbish kind, Classic Rhythm and Blues of course), Indie Pop,  Ska, Britpop, Grunge, Post punk and  Alternative just to name a few. Whilst late night skyping we decided that we wanted to share our music tastes with the outside world, meaning you, but we were unsure how to do this. After going to gigs, buying vinyl, filling iPods and trawling the internet to find new and upcoming phenomena's of the music world we decided to put this blog together and we hope you'll enjoy it!
So here we are, two excited teenagers anticipating the future that this blog has to bring. We'll keep you updated and hope to stick to a schedule of posting every Sunday. Thankyou for popping by and we hope to see you again in the close future, Goodbye, Ruby and Sophie!
