Is it in my 'Head'- The Who

Hello Chums, On Saturday(14/09/11) we had a whale of a time, flicking through records and sampling the new addition to our town, the 'Head' store. An event we've been anticipating for a long time, when Saturday 14th September came, we both woke up with an almighty spring in our step.

On Saturday, 'Head' had its grand opening and we were lucky enough to pop by and check out what they had to offer! Selling an extensive collection of various Vinyl, CD's, DVD's and Games, 'Head' didn't fail to impress us! And we made a day of it! We brought along some companions too, our good friend Lucianne and my (Ruby's) brother will.

We all had our pockets left bare after purchasing various records: Frankie and The Heartstrings-Hunger, The Smiths- Rank, Black Lips!- We Did Not Know The Forest Spirit Made The Flowers Grow, Black Lips- Good Bad Not Evil and The Black Angles- Indigo Meadows. We also grabbed ourselves a great lot of bargains from the good old charity shops too! Nothing beats buying quality Shirts, Skirts, Jumpers, Scarfs and CD's for peanut prices. The charity shop CD racks were bustling and we picked ourselves some almighty finds- Oasis: Whats The Story Morning Glory, Oasis: Don't Believe The Truth, The Libertines: The Libertines and Bob Dylan: Together Through life.

Overall, our thoughts on 'Head' are all pretty positive. We loved the layout of the shop as it was simple but also pretty chilled and cool too! They had a great range of vinyl, from pop to punk to rock to indie to jazz and they didn't fail to impress us with their bargain corner, where you could get decent vinyl for peanuts too! The shop was very spacious but had everything needed to create a nice atmosphere and all the employees seemed friendly and helpful. We would recommend that the shop started selling 7 inch, we also think it would be a great idea for the shop to open a small cafe at the back, where vinyl lovers could hang and chat and converse about their terrific tastes in music. We think it would be a great idea for 'Head' to introduce live performances in the shop, we have nothing like that here and we think it would do really well! We had a great time and would again recommend that you all took a peek at any shop in the 'Head' chain.

Introducing: Frankie And The Heartstrings

Hello Chums,We'd just like to start by telling you that were starting a series of blog posts called 'Introducing:...' in which we will be sharing our love for big, small and inbetweeny British Bands. Enjoy!

Frankie and the Heartstrings are an Indie-Rock band based in Sunderland. Their career kicked off in 2008 and their popularity has continued to grow and blossom into a small but fabulous following of loving fans, who all share a 'hunger' for their talent, blowing their fans away at their intimate and lively gigs, creating fabulous music and altogether being a group of  talented musicians  . With songs such as 'Everybody Looks Better (In The Right Light)' and 'Hunger', they have not failed to replicate the sound of angels and satisfy our 'Hungry' appetite for good music along many others craving the same.

Frankie and The Heartstrings have released 2 albums, first being there debut album 'Hunger' in 2011 and their second, 'The Days Run Away' not so long ago in June 2013. Although their new album is praiseworthy beyond belief, our appetite for 'Hunger' is ever present, being, in our opinions, their very best. The album Hunger, featuring the songs such as Tender, Possibilities and Photograph is a perfect combination of rhythmic melodies and melodic rhythms that would satisfy the unsatisfyable and please the unpleaseable.

Not only have '... The Heartstrings' impressed us with their glorious symphonies, they have also stunned us with their entrepreneurial mind-sets, opening a record shop in Sunderland and also providing us with the record label 'Pop Sex LTD'. They have also made several podcasts which are available on iTunes and are really entertaining to listen to!
Frankie and the Heartstrings are a band that introduce you to the beautiful sounds not dissimilar to the likes  of  Orange Juice, Dexy's Midnight Runners and many more along the lines. And being being a band produced by Edwyn Collins, Ryan Jarman of the Cribs and Suede guitarist Bernard Butler their talent does not surprise us in the least.

 Find them on twitter
Check out their website

Overall, We highly recommend this band to each and every one of you. we guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Thankyou for popping by and we hope to see you again in the close future, Goodbye, Ruby and Sophie!

Til the life I knew comes to my house and says 'Hello'- Oasis.

Hello. If you're reading this blog post its inevitable that you either stumbled across us circumstantially or you have heard about us through a means of communication. Either way we'd just  like to start by thanking you for taking a peek at what we have got to offer.

We are Ruby(on the left) and Sophie(on the right) and as you already may know, we're two 14 year old music enthusiasts from the north. I (Ruby) am a Mod who loves to go to vintage festivals and buy bits and bobs from charity shops. My Fred Perry's, Retro Dresses, Loafers and DM's are my prize possessions and I look after them with the up most of care. I enjoy nothing more than drinking tea and listening to vinyl on my record player. I (Sophie) am into anything floral, Lacey and generally pretty. My desert boots and my Ipod are my definite desert island picks and I could NOT live without them. I absolutely love art, making clothes and other crafty bits and bobs, another thing me and Ruby have in common. Together we have millions of similar interests but most importantly our love for music which we discovered when Morrissey came into a conversation not so long ago!

You may be wondering why we'd ever think of starting a blog sharing our music tastes and reviewing beloved bands and glorious gigs and here is why. We both share a gigantic love for music. But not just any old chart nonsense, were talking about R E A L music here. Indie, Indie Rock, Mod, Northern Soul, R+B (but not the rubbish kind, Classic Rhythm and Blues of course), Indie Pop,  Ska, Britpop, Grunge, Post punk and  Alternative just to name a few. Whilst late night skyping we decided that we wanted to share our music tastes with the outside world, meaning you, but we were unsure how to do this. After going to gigs, buying vinyl, filling iPods and trawling the internet to find new and upcoming phenomena's of the music world we decided to put this blog together and we hope you'll enjoy it!
So here we are, two excited teenagers anticipating the future that this blog has to bring. We'll keep you updated and hope to stick to a schedule of posting every Sunday. Thankyou for popping by and we hope to see you again in the close future, Goodbye, Ruby and Sophie!
